About the Artists:
Ecological handcrafts from Bolivia honor the life of the rainforest through sustainable harvesting of rainforest seeds. Seeds include cesibieto de la palmera, acai, and jachirilla. Acai berries are known for their healthful properties, but the seed makes up 90% of the berry. By creating exquisitely simple adornments with these seeds, indigenous families support valuation of the forest and its precious resources. As rainforest resources are exploited by outside companies, projects like this small business help keep resources and decisions about those resources in the hands of those who have lived in its canopy for centuries. The purchase of this piece supports indigenous families’ microenterprises, the health of the forest and the spirit of its people.
